About Google_drive

Google_drive is an MCP server for working with Google Drive files, for agents and MCP clients that need file discovery, metadata, content retrieval, or creation. It can run locally over stdio or connect through Pipeworx.

Key features

  1. 01List and filter Drive files
  2. 02Search by metadata or full text
  3. 03Retrieve file metadata and content
  4. 04Create files with specified content and type

Use cases

  1. 01Find reports by name, type, or date
  2. 02Inspect ownership and permissions for a file
  3. 03Download or export Drive file content
  4. 04Create a file in Drive

MCP support

Exposes Google Drive search, listing, retrieval, and creation tools to MCP clients. It is available as a local stdio server or through Pipeworx, whose gateway endpoint also includes shared meta-tools.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Endpointhttps://gateway.pipeworx.io/google_drive/mcp
Copy install command
Claude CodeTerminal
Cursor.cursor/mcp.json
VS Code.vscode/mcp.json
Claude Desktopclaude_desktop_config.json
Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

Google Drive MCP Pack

Part of Pipeworx — an MCP gateway connecting AI agents to 1879+ live data sources. This is an independent, unofficial integration — not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream provider.

Tools

ToolDescription
drive_list_filesList files in your Google Drive. Optionally filter by name, type, owner, or modified date (e.g., 'name contains "report"'). Returns file names, IDs, types, and metadata.
drive_get_fileGet metadata for a specific Drive file by ID. Returns name, type, size, owners, permissions, creation date, and last modified time.
drive_get_contentDownload file content from Drive. Export Google Docs/Sheets/Slides to PDF, Word, Excel, etc., or retrieve raw content from other files.
drive_create_fileCreate a new file in Drive with specified name, content, and type (e.g., 'text/plain', 'application/pdf'). Returns the file ID for future reference.
drive_searchSearch Drive files by name, type, owner, modified date, or full text using query operators (e.g., 'name contains "report"', 'mimeType = application/pdf'). Returns matching files and IDs.

Quick Start

Add to your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "google_drive": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/google_drive/mcp"
    }
  }
}
What this endpoint actually serves

tools/list at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/google_drive/mcp returns the tools in the table above plus the shared Pipeworx meta-tools — ask_pipeworx, discover_tools, search_within, remember/recall and the rest of the gateway-wide set. So the tool count you see is larger than this table: a single-pack endpoint currently lists roughly 30 shared tools alongside the pack's own. The connection's initialize response states its exact scope, and is the authoritative answer for a given day.

This is deliberate, not multiplexing by accident. The meta-tools are what let a scoped connection answer a question this pack does not cover — via ask_pipeworx, which routes across the whole catalog — without you adding a second MCP server. There is currently no way to mount a pack endpoint without them; if the extra schemas cost you more context than the routing is worth, connect to the full gateway once rather than to several pack endpoints.

Or connect to the full Pipeworx gateway to get every pack's tools listed directly, instead of just this one's:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "pipeworx": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Both URLs reach the same gateway and the same 1879+ data sources. The only difference is which pack's tools are listed directly; ask_pipeworx reaches all of them from either one.

No MCP client? Call it over HTTP

This pack runs against a connected google_drive account, so it needs a Pipeworx key: sign in at https://pipeworx.io/account, connect google_drive, then call POST https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/drive_list_files with Authorization: Bearer <your Pipeworx key>. Inspect any tool: GET https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/drive_list_files. Find one: POST https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/search_packs with {"query":"..."}.

Standalone (no gateway account)

This package also runs as a local stdio MCP server — no Pipeworx account, no gateway round-trip:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "google_drive": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-google_drive"]
    }
  }
}

Or run it directly to confirm it starts:

npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-google_drive

It speaks MCP over stdin/stdout and answers initialize/tools/list/tools/call for only this pack's tools — none of the shared meta-tools the gateway connection above adds. Same source, same tools, no ask_pipeworx routing.

Using with ask_pipeworx

Instead of calling tools directly, you can ask questions in plain English — this works on the pack endpoint above as well as on the full gateway:

ask_pipeworx({ question: "your question about Google_drive data" })

The gateway picks the right tool and fills the arguments automatically.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
