About aria-mcp-server

ARIA is an MCP server for biomedical researchers and clinical trial teams, providing searches across PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, and ISRCTN without API keys. It also includes research prompts and reference resources.

Key features

  1. 01Search PubMed literature
  2. 02Search ClinicalTrials.gov trials
  3. 03Search ISRCTN trials
  4. 04Use structured research prompts
  5. 05Access trial and regulatory references

Use cases

  1. 01Find biomedical papers on a condition or treatment
  2. 02Identify recruiting trials for a disease
  3. 03Review drug safety evidence and adverse events
  4. 04Check eligibility across recruiting trials

MCP support

Exposes literature and trial search tools, research prompts, and reference resources to MCP clients.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"pkotecha-eng-aria": {
"command": "uvx",
"args": [
"aria-mcp-server"
]
}
}
}
Run commanduvx aria-mcp-server

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Quickstart

pip install aria-mcp-server
aria-mcp-server

Connect to Claude Desktop

Add to ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "aria-clinical-research": {
      "command": "aria-mcp-server"
    }
  }
}

Restart Claude Desktop. The server will appear under Settings → Developer → Local MCP Servers.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
