About Ranger MCP Server
Ranger MCP Server is a minimal server that replies “Ranger!” to every tool request, regardless of its input. It is suited to simple MCP response testing.
Key features
- 01Return a fixed response to tool requests
- 02Ignore request inputs
- 03Communicate over standard input and output
Use cases
- 01Check an MCP client's tool-request flow
- 02Test standard input/output server handling
MCP support
The MCP server provides several tools that all return “Ranger!” and disregard their inputs. It communicates over stdio.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMERanger MCP Server
It consistently responds with "Ranger!" to any MCP tool request it receives via standard input/output (stdio).
Usage
Run the server script:
python ranger_fastmcp.py
It provides several tools (like ranger, ranger_with_input, any_request, etc.), but all of them ignore inputs and simply return "Ranger!".

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
