Building a Remote MCP Server on Cloudflare (Without Auth)
LocalAbout Building a Remote MCP Server on Cloudflare (Without Auth)
This example shows how to deploy an unauthenticated remote MCP server on Cloudflare Workers and add custom tools. It is aimed at developers who want to connect the server to Cloudflare AI Playground or local MCP clients.
Key features
- 01Deploy an unauthenticated server to Cloudflare Workers
- 02Create the server locally from a template
- 03Define custom tools in src/index.ts
- 04Connect through Cloudflare AI Playground
- 05Connect local clients using mcp-remote
Use cases
- 01Deploy a remote MCP server without authentication
- 02Create a local server from the Cloudflare template
- 03Add custom tools to the server
- 04Connect Claude Desktop or Cloudflare AI Playground
MCP support
The example deploys a remote MCP server that exposes tools defined in src/index.ts. MCP clients can connect through Cloudflare AI Playground or, for local clients, the mcp-remote proxy.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
The maintainer has not added details yet. Check the README in the repository.
Comments
New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
