About uuid-forge-mcp

uuid-forge-mcp is an MCP server for developers who need unique identifiers for databases, tests, or prototypes. It generates UUID v4/v7, ULID, and nanoid formats and can parse UUIDs.

Key features

  1. 01Generate UUID v4 and v7
  2. 02Generate compact nanoid IDs
  3. 03Generate sortable ULIDs
  4. 04Parse UUID version and variant
  5. 05Extract timestamps from v1/v7

Use cases

  1. 01Create identifiers for database seeding
  2. 02Generate IDs for tests and prototypes
  3. 03Inspect a UUID's version and timestamp

MCP support

Exposes five identifier-generation and parsing tools to MCP clients.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"ryudi84-uuid-forge": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"uuid-forge-mcp"
]
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y uuid-forge-mcp

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
