About timps
timps is a persistent memory MCP server for coding assistants such as Claude, Cursor, and Windsurf. It provides tools for recalling information across sessions, detecting contradictions, and tracking code, decisions, and developer signals.
Key features
- 01Store and retrieve persistent memories
- 02Detect contradictions in recorded positions
- 03Track decisions and commitments
- 04Identify bug patterns and architecture drift
- 05Monitor burnout signals
- 06Query causal and knowledge graphs
Use cases
- 01Recall project context in a later session
- 02Check a new statement against prior positions
- 03Track decisions and outstanding commitments
- 04Review code risks and burnout signals
MCP support
timps exposes memory and developer-intelligence tools through MCP. It can proxy to a TIMPS HTTP server or run its MemoryEngine directly in local mode.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
npx -y @timps-ai/timps-mcpTIMPS_URLURL of the TIMPS MemoryServer (e.g. http://localhost:4100). If not set, uses local file-based memory.TIMPS_MEMORY_URLURL of the TIMPS MemoryServer for memory operations. Set to same as TIMPS_URL when using the full stack.TIMPS_API_KEYSecretAPI key for authenticating with TIMPS MemoryServer. Generate via POST /auth/key on the server.TIMPS_PROJECT_PATHProject path for local memory storage. Defaults to current working directory.Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
