MCP support

Exposes six financial-data tools to MCP clients, backed by the SECfinAPI REST API. It runs locally and requires a SECfinAPI key.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config

"secfinapi": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",

}
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y secfinapi-mcp

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

Details

From the project README

secfinapi-mcp

MCP server for SECfinAPI — standardized SEC EDGAR financial data (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, 40+ ratios) as tools for Claude, Cursor, and other AI assistants.

Ask your AI assistant things like "What's Apple's revenue trend?" or "Compare MSFT and GOOGL operating margins" — it fetches the data live through SECfinAPI.

It runs locally on your machine and is a thin wrapper over the SECfinAPI REST API. No server to host, no extra cost.

Setup

  1. Get an API key (free) at https://www.secfinapi.com.
  2. Add the server to your AI assistant's MCP config.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
