About nuttle

nuttle-mcp connects MCP clients to data that the Nuttle desktop app has saved locally from browsed posts, comment threads and videos. It is a small stdio bridge to the app's local server, keeping the data on the user's machine.

Key features

  1. 01Query saved posts and full comment trees
  2. 02Wait for new data as browsing continues
  3. 03Read and map raw captures from sites
  4. 04Download watched media
  5. 05Run comment insights with quote verification

Use cases

  1. 01Retrieve a saved post with its comment tree
  2. 02Check newly captured content while scrolling
  3. 03Map fields from a raw site capture
  4. 04Analyze comments with quotes checked against captures

MCP support

Provides an stdio MCP bridge to Nuttle's local server at http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp; MCP clients using streamable HTTP can connect to that server directly.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"shiyue1250-nuttle": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"nuttle-mcp"
]
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y nuttle-mcp

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Packages
npmnuttle-mcp0.1.0

Details

From the project README

nuttle-mcp

MCP server for Nuttle: lets Claude Desktop and any MCP client that launches local commands query the posts, full comment trees and videos you've browsed (Reddit, X and more), saved on your own computer by the Nuttle desktop app.

It's a small stdio bridge to the app's local server (http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp). Nothing leaves your machine.

Setup

  1. Install Nuttle for Windows (free) and keep it open.
  2. Add this to your client's MCP config — for Claude Desktop, claude_desktop_config.json:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "nuttle": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "nuttle-mcp"]
    }
  }
}

If Nuttle isn't running, the server still starts and tells the agent to ask you to open it. Once the app is up, the tools appear on their own.

Clients that speak streamable HTTP (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) can connect to http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp directly — see the guide.

What the agent can do

32 tools: read a post with its whole comment tree in one call, wait for new data while you scroll, read raw captures from any site and map fields without code, download the media you watched, and run comment-insight jobs whose quotes are checked word for word against the captured comments.

Options

  • NUTTLE_MCP_URL — upstream address, default http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
