About Shortcuts
Shortcuts MCP server exposes Apple Shortcuts on macOS to MCP-compatible clients. It lets AI assistants list, view and run the user's shortcuts from tools such as Cursor or Claude Desktop.
Key features
- 01List shortcuts with optional identifiers
- 02Run a shortcut by name
- 03Open a named shortcut in the Shortcuts app
- 04Expose list and run through Resources and Prompts
Use cases
- 01Asking an AI assistant to run an existing shortcut
- 02Reviewing the local list of Apple Shortcuts during a conversation
- 03Triggering macOS automation from Cursor or Claude Desktop
MCP support
This project is an MCP server that provides run, list and view tools, a list resource, and prompts for MCP clients to access Apple Shortcuts.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEshortcuts-mcp-server
A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides access to Apple Shortcuts functionality. This server allows AI assistants to list, view, and run your shortcuts through the MCP interface.
Compatible with Cursor, Claude Desktop, and other MCP-enabled applications.

Getting started
Prerequisites
- macOS 14.5 or later
- Xcode 26.0 or later (Swift 6.2)
- mise
Setup with mise
To install mise:
brew install mise
For more information about mise, visit the official documentation.
Quick install
Manual installation
Update your MCP configuration with the following server:
{
"mcpServers": {
"shortcuts-mcp-server": {
"command": "mise",
"args": [
"x",

]
}
}
}
Xcode 27 agent plug-in
The repo root is a Claude Code style agent plug-in that Xcode 27 can import:
.claude-plugin/
├── plugin.json
└── icon.svg
plugin.json declares the MCP server plus _meta with a custom tool icon and titles.
In Xcode: Settings → Intelligence → Plug-ins → Add Plug-in…, then pick the cloned repository directory.
Usage
Just ask LLM to run a shortcut, show a list of added shortcuts or view a shortcut in Shortcuts app.
If your MCP client supports Prompts and Resources you may check it as well:

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
