About DEPRECATED
DEPRECATED is a prototype for running an MCP server directly on AWS Lambda and Amazon API Gateway using Streamable HTTP, without a bridging component or custom transport. The repository directs users to a replacement project.
Key features
- 01Runs an MCP server on AWS Lambda
- 02Uses Amazon API Gateway
- 03Uses Streamable HTTP transport
- 04Includes Terraform setup
- 05Provides a sample ping tool
Use cases
- 01Explore an MCP server deployed on AWS Lambda
- 02Test MCP access through an API Gateway endpoint
- 03Try a basic ping tool with a client
MCP support
The prototype exposes a ping tool from an MCP server over Streamable HTTP. It includes a client that lists and calls the tool.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

DEPRECATED
A simple MCP Server running natively on AWS Lambda and Amazon API Gateway without any extra bridging components or custom transports. This is now possible thanks to the Streamable HTTP transport introduced in v2025-03-26. This is merely a prototype.
Architecture is as simple as it gets:

Prereqs
- AWS CLI
- Terraform
Instructions
Install dependencies:
cd src
npm install
cd ..
Bootstrap server and set env var with MCP Server endpoint:
cd terraform
terraform init
terraform plan
terraform apply
export SIMPLE_MCP_SERVER_ENDPOINT=$(terraform output --raw endpoint_url)
cd ..
Note: It might take a few seconds for API Gateway endpoint to become operational.
Run client:
node src/client.js
Observe the response:
> node client.js
> listTools response: { tools: [ { name: 'ping', inputSchema: [Object] } ] }
> callTool:ping response: { content: [ { type: 'text', text: 'pong' } ] }

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
