About legacy-shield
LegacyShield MCP Server lets AI agents interact with the LegacyShield Zero-Knowledge Vault. Its documented tools list vault files and retrieve file metadata, with stdio as the agent connection and API credentials required.
Key features
- 01List vault files
- 02Retrieve file metadata
- 03stdio connection for agents
- 04API URL and key configuration
Use cases
- 01Inspect which files are in a vault
- 02Retrieve encryption headers and file information
MCP support
The MCP server exposes tools for listing vault files and retrieving file metadata to AI agents over stdio.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
npx -y @legacy-shield/mcp-serverLEGACY_SHIELD_API_KEYSecretYour LegacyShield API key (starts with ls_). Get one at POST https://api.legacyshield.eu/api/v1/auth/agent-registerLEGACY_SHIELD_API_URLLegacyShield API base URLLocal servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMELegacyShield MCP Server 🦞
This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that allows AI agents (like Claude) to interact directly with the LegacyShield Zero-Knowledge Vault.
Features
- list_vault_files: Let agents see what's in the vault.
- get_file_metadata: Retrieve encryption headers and file info.
Usage for Agents
Agents use this server via stdio to bridge the gap between their reasoning and your encrypted persistence.
Configuration
Requires:
- `LEGACY_SHIELD_API_URL`
- `LEGACY_SHIELD_API_KEY` (generated via `POST /agents/register`)

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
