About LSP-MCP Bridge
LSP-MCP Bridge is an MCP server that forwards language-server requests for developers using LSP-based language tooling. It maps file extensions to configured servers and exposes navigation, symbol, and diagnostic queries through one binary.
Key features
- 01Extension-based LSP routing
- 02Hover documentation and types
- 03Definition and reference lookup
- 04File symbol listing
- 05Diagnostics and server listing
Use cases
- 01Inspect a symbol's type while working with a file
- 02Navigate to a definition or find references
- 03Review language-server errors and warnings
MCP support
It exposes configured LSP servers to MCP clients through tools for hover, definitions, references, symbols, diagnostics, and server listing.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMElsp-mcp-rs
MCP server that bridges to any LSP. One binary, multiple language servers.
Build
cargo build --release
Binary: target/release/lsp-mcp-rs.exe
Configure
Create config.toml next to the binary:
[servers.lua]
command = "C:/path/to/lua-language-server.exe"
args = ["--stdio"]
extensions = [".lua"]
[servers.rust]
command = "rust-analyzer"
args = []
extensions = [".rs"]
[servers.python]
command = "pyright-langserver"
args = ["--stdio"]
extensions = [".py"]
Add to Claude Desktop config (claude_desktop_config.json):
{
"mcpServers": {
"lsp": {
"command": "X:\\path\\to\\lsp-mcp-rs.exe",
"args": []
}
}
}
Tools
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
lsp_hover | Get docs/type at position |
lsp_definition | Go to definition |
lsp_references | Find all references |
lsp_symbols | List symbols in file |
lsp_diagnostics | Get errors/warnings |
lsp_servers | List configured servers |
All position arguments are 0-indexed.
How it works
- MCP request comes in with a file path
- File extension maps to configured LSP server
- LSP spawns on first use, stays running
- Request forwarded to LSP, response returned via MCP

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
