About DrawPad
DrawPad is a macOS MCP server for creating and checking 3D-printable designs. It generates previews and watertight STL files, with editable projects for DrawPad Pro.stl.
Key features
- 01Template-based design creation
- 02Custom shapes and text in millimetres
- 03STL size, volume, and watertight checks
- 04Rendered previews and STL export
- 05Editable DrawPad project export
Use cases
- 01Create a named keychain or plant label
- 02Design cookie cutters and signs
- 03Check an STL before slicing
MCP support
DrawPad runs as an MCP server for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and other MCP clients. It provides design creation and STL-checking tools.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

This repository is where DrawPad MCP is released and supported:
DrawPad.mcpbfor Claude Desktop is on the Releases page, and bugs and requests go in Issues. All of Opticell's free tools for Claude: opticell-mcp.
Let Claude design things you can 3D-print. Ask for "a keychain that says LUNA", "a 60 mm star cookie cutter" or "a plant label for basil". Claude builds it with the engine from DrawPad Pro.stl, shows you a preview, and saves a watertight STL for your slicer plus a DrawPad project you can keep editing on iPad.
macOS (Apple silicon and Intel).
Install
Claude Desktop: download DrawPad.mcpb from
https://www.opticell-limited.com/drawpad and double-click it.
Claude Code
claude mcp add drawpad -- npx -y @opticell/drawpad-mcp mcp
Any other MCP client: run npx -y @opticell/drawpad-mcp mcp as a stdio server.
What Claude can do
- Templates: keychain, cookie cutter (heart, star, circle, flower, cloud or any outline), name sign, coaster, gift tag, stencil.
- Custom designs: circles, rectangles, polygons, stars, hearts and text, with holes, stacked layers and thin walls, all in millimetres.
- Check an STL: size, volume, filament weight, and whether it's watertight.
Every design reports its size, volume and grams of PLA/PETG, and comes with a
rendered preview. Files go to ~/Documents/DrawPad Designs.
Open designs in DrawPad Pro.stl
AirDrop the .lsproj file to your iPad or iPhone, or save it to iCloud Drive,
and open it. DrawPad imports it as a new project, and templates stay editable.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
