  1. 01Calculate a target-income hourly rate
  2. 02Calculate an expense-only break-even rate
  3. 03Compare what-if scenarios
  4. 04Run calculations locally without network access

Use cases

hourly-rate

MCP server: the minimum hourly rate a freelancer must charge to hit a desired annual after-tax income, given business expenses, billable hours, working weeks and the tax rate on profit. Plus a break-even rate and side-by-side what-if scenarios.

Free, pure calculation: no storage, no rate tables, no network.

Tools

  • calculate_rate — minimum hourly rate from income, expenses, hours, weeks, tax
  • break_even — the rate that covers expenses only
  • what_if — compare 2–12 scenarios, highest rate first

Run

node servers/hourly-rate/src/index.js

Install

One-click hourly-rate.mcpb bundle from the releases page, or build from source. See llms-install.md.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
