About tax-calc
tax-calc is an MCP server for estimating US federal income tax locally, intended for planning scenarios. It applies the 2026 single-filer brackets and standard deduction to return total tax, effective rate, and marginal bracket; results are planning estimates.
Key features
- 01Estimate US federal income tax
- 02Apply 2026 single-filer brackets
- 03Include the standard deduction
- 04Return total tax, effective rate, and marginal bracket
- 05Compare multiple income scenarios
Use cases
- 01Estimate federal tax at different gross incomes
- 02Compare bonus or side-income scenarios
- 03See how income changes affect tax rates
MCP support
As an MCP server, it exposes the us_federal_tax tool to calculate estimated US federal tax from income. Calculations run locally, and results are for planning rather than filing advice.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEMCP Tax Calculator — 2026 US federal brackets, computed in the conversation
Give Claude (or any MCP client) a tax estimator: us_federal_tax applies the 2026 US federal brackets for a single filer — including the $15,750 standard deduction — and returns total tax, effective rate, and marginal bracket. Planning numbers, computed on your machine, in one sentence.
Why a tax server
Tax estimators on the web want your email before showing a number. This one does the bracket math immediately: give it gross income and get total federal tax, the effective rate, and which marginal bracket your last dollar lands in. Clearly labeled as approximate planning values — not filing advice — but exactly right for "can I afford X this year" conversations.
What it does
us_federal_tax— gross income → standard deduction applied ($15,750), 2026 brackets walked correctly (10% through 37%), total tax, effective rate, marginal bracket. Bracket edges are exact, not rounded.- A single-tool server that does one thing: ask it as many income scenarios as you like in one conversation — bonus scenarios, side-income scenarios, comparisons.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
