About Toolweather
Toolweather is a remote MCP server for agents that need to assess MCP server health, API status, model retirements, and payment risk. It combines monitoring, alternatives, alerts, and spend or merchant checks in one connection.
Key features
- 01Check MCP server safety and health
- 02Find alternatives and watch for changes
- 03Check API status and model retirements
- 04Assess spending and merchant risk
Use cases
- 01Check a server before an agent calls it
- 02Track changes to a watched MCP server
- 03Check provider outages or model retirement
- 04Screen a merchant before an agent pays
MCP support
Exposes tools for MCP health, API and model status, change alerts, spend scoring, and merchant checks through a remote MCP endpoint. Connect without a key for a limited quota, or provide an API key for a higher quota.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

18| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| tool | string | No | Optional tool name on that server. If the server is up but this name is absent, verdict is unsafe. Omit to judge the server only. |
| fresh | boolean | No | True forces a live read-only initialize now and spends one of 200 live checks/day (priced as a live check). Omit to live-check only when the stored result is older than 5 minutes. |
| server | string | Yes | Registry name (io.github.owner/name) or that server's MCP endpoint URL. Partial names match the Toolweather index. A product homepage usually will not match. |
| bearer_token | string | No | Token for the target server only, not a Toolweather key. One authenticated initialize + tools/list, never stored or logged. Setting it forces a live check. |

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
