About Unity MCP Template
A template project showing how a TypeScript MCP server can interact with Unity. It is for developers who want to build and extend their own Unity tools through the paired server and Unity example project.
Key features
- 01TypeScript MCP server and Unity interaction
- 02Unity example project
- 03IMGUI EditorWindow
- 04Instructions for creating custom tools
Use cases
- 01Prototype Unity control through MCP
- 02Add custom tools to a Unity project
- 03Build and configure the TypeScript server
MCP support
The TypeScript MCP server connects with the Unity example project, and can be configured in Claude Desktop. The template shows how to create matching tools in both TypeScript and Unity.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

Unity MCP Template
This is a simple example project demonstrating interaction between a TypeScript-based MCP server and Unity. You can build and configure your own tools to expand and develop further.
Create more tools your own!
Quick Start
unity-mcp-sample is a Unity example project. To minimize version-related issues and ensure compatibility with legacy versions, it does not use packages like NewtonsoftJSON. Additionally, the EditorWindow is implemented using IMGUI. The MCP can be managed through the UnityMCP-ShowWindow at the top.
Build MCP Server
within the unity-mcp-server
npm install
npm run build
Add MCP in Claude Desktop
Open Claude Desktop Settings, and Developer-Edit Config
{
"mcpServers": {
"unity-mcp": {
"command": "node",
"args":["F:/unity-mcp-template/unity-mcp-server/dist/index.js"]
}
}
}
Create your own tools!
Both input data structure should be same.
Unity
Refer to CreateObjectTools and create the tool you want.
Typescript
Refer to createObject and create the tool you want.
TODO List
- Enable Unity to send result messages to MCP
- Discussion here
Change TCP structure (currently implemented with client-server reversed due to a bug in the TypeScript SDK)Unity (Current : TCP Server, TODO : TCP Client)MCP (Current : TCP Client, TODO : TCP Server)

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
