About Locus
Locus provides agent skills for public records tied to US addresses, including zoning, flood, parcel, permit, and tax information. It emphasizes source verification and awareness rather than conclusions about safety, value, or compliance.
Key features
- 01Install general and specialist agent skills
- 02Check free tools and coverage
- 03Retrieve cited, read-only information
- 04Use paid endpoints with authorization
- 05Follow a property-tax protest workflow
Use cases
- 01Review parcel and public records for an address
- 02Check jurisdictional registration lookup coverage
- 03Organize deadlines and evidence for a property-tax protest
MCP support
The skills can direct agents to Locus's remote MCP server at https://mcp.locus.report/mcp; free tools are read-only and cited.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

From the project README@velinussage/locus-agent-skill
Install three Locus agent skills: the general MCP/REST/A2A capability guide, the opt-in surrounding-area purchase workflow, and the property-tax protest workflow.
Locus returns awareness and verification steps, not a verdict. Do not use it to score, rank, screen, value, predict, or label a person, property, block, or neighborhood as safe or unsafe.
Install with this package
npx @velinussage/locus-agent-skill add
By default this writes locus-agent-tools/, locus-surrounding-area-analysis/, and locus-property-tax-protest/ to $CODEX_HOME/skills or ~/.codex/skills. The general public skill routes relevant requests to the specialist workflows; it does not turn ordinary Locus discovery into a paid flow.
Options:
npx @velinussage/locus-agent-skill add --target ./skills
npx @velinussage/locus-agent-skill add --target ./skills --force
npx @velinussage/locus-agent-skill --print
Install with GitHub CLI
gh skill install velinussage/locus-agent-skill locus-agent-tools
Preview first:
gh skill preview velinussage/locus-agent-skill locus-agent-tools
Install with skills.sh
The same skill is also available from the public GitHub repo through the open skills CLI:
npx skills add velinussage/locus-agent-skill --skill locus-agent-tools
Useful variants:
npx skills add velinussage/locus-agent-skill --skill locus-agent-tools -g
npx skills add velinussage/locus-agent-skill --skill locus-agent-tools -a claude-code -a codex
npx skills use velinussage/locus-agent-skill --skill locus-agent-tools

What the skills teach agents
- The full free catalog exposes 104 tools, including 58 national free lanes. Read the live catalog because rollout configuration can change the visible total.
locus_place_factsis the best first call when supported.locus_lane_availabilityshows national, local, varies, not-covered, and degraded lanes before payment.- Free tools stay read-only and cited.
locus_rental_registration_checkdeclares its scope per jurisdiction. Long-term registration is wired in Minneapolis, Montgomery County, New York City, and Seattle; Denver is short-term-license only; Kansas City is building-enforcement only. It returns no legal-rental or compliance verdict.- The property-tax protest workflow keeps deadline, filing-guide, evidence, browser handoff, and published-outcome facts separate from the owner's own filing and value position.
- Paid endpoints use live x402 discovery, may offer USDC on Base and Solana, and require explicit user authorization. Agents choose one complete
accepts[]entry. - The surrounding-area workflow requires two separate approvals: $0.10 for the reusable JSON packet, then $0.15 for an eligible HTML/PDF report within 24 hours. Packet and report retrieval are proof-gated for 90 days.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
