About Winlog Mcp
WinLog-mcp is a Windows MCP server for collecting and inspecting event logs, including Sysmon, for security monitoring and incident response. It writes ingested logs to a chosen directory and supports timestamp-based queries.
Key features
- 01Ingest recent Sysmon logs
- 02Store logs in a chosen directory
- 03Query recent events by timestamp
Use cases
- 01Review recent events during incident response
- 02Inspect logs for security monitoring
- 03Troubleshoot using time-filtered events
MCP support
It exposes `ingest_syslog` and `query_syslog` tools to MCP clients. It must run with Administrator privileges.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project README🪟 WinLog-mcp
A Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool for retrieving and analyzing Windows event logs (e.g. Application, System, Security). WinLog-mcp provides programmatic access to ingest and query Windows event logs, making it ideal for security monitoring, incident response, and log analysis automation.
⚠️ Warning: This tool must be run with Administrator privileges. Please exercise caution to avoid causing unintended changes to your system.
✨ Features
- Ingest Windows Sysmon logs and store them as files in a user-defined directory
- Query logs by timestamp, returning recent event entries for analysis or troubleshooting
- Seamless interoperability with MCP tools and ecosystem
📄 Log files format
- Log files are named with the format
<timestamp>_<log_type>.login the chosen storage path

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
