About Tool Pantry

Tool Pantry MCP Server helps agents find browser-based tools for file tasks and offers small stateless text and data utilities. Its catalog tools process files in the user's browser, while the server also runs over stdio or stateless HTTP.

Key features

  1. 01Search a catalog of browser tools
  2. 02Text statistics and hashing
  3. 03UUID and password generation
  4. 04JSON and Base64 utilities
  5. 05Colour conversion and QR codes
  6. 06Stdio and stateless HTTP modes

Use cases

  1. 01Finding a browser tool for a file conversion
  2. 02Calculating text statistics or hashes
  3. 03Formatting JSON or converting Base64
  4. 04Creating a QR code for text or a URL

MCP support

The MCP server exposes `search_tools` and stateless helper tools to MCP clients. It is available as a local stdio server and as a stateless streamable HTTP endpoint.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Endpointhttps://mcp.toolpantry.app/mcp
Copy install command
Claude CodeTerminal
Cursor.cursor/mcp.json
VS Code.vscode/mcp.json
Claude Desktopclaude_desktop_config.json
Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

Tool Pantry MCP Server

An MCP server for Tool Pantry — 216 free browser tools for PDF, images, video, audio and text that process files entirely in the user's browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, no watermark and no file-size limit.

The server has two jobs:

  1. search_tools — find the exact tool page for a request ("compress image to 100kb", "merge pdf", "heic to jpg") so an agent can hand over a working link instead of generic advice.
  2. Small stateless helpers — text stats, hashing, UUIDs, passwords, JSON formatting, Base64, colour conversion and QR codes, all served by the same public API.

Zero dependencies, ~200 lines, runs on any Node 18+.

Listed in the official MCP registry

io.github.wu736139669/toolpantry-mcp
curl "https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0/servers?search=io.github.wu736139669/toolpantry-mcp"

Use it over HTTP

The same server runs on Cloudflare Workers at https://mcp.toolpantry.app/mcp (streamable HTTP, stateless):

curl -X POST https://mcp.toolpantry.app/mcp \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'

https://mcp.toolpantry.app/ returns a small health/capability JSON.

Install

# Claude Desktop / Claude Code (stdio)
npx -y toolpantry-mcp

    "toolpantry": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "toolpantry-mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Run from a checkout:

git clone https://github.com/wu736139669/toolpantry-mcp.git
node toolpantry-mcp/mcp-server.mjs

Tools

ToolWhat it does
search_toolsSearch the 216-tool catalog; returns the tool name, URL and description
text_statsCharacters, words, sentences, paragraphs, lines, reading time
hash_textSHA-1 / SHA-256 / SHA-384 / SHA-512 digests (hex + base64)
generate_uuidRandom UUID v4 values
generate_passwordRandom passwords from the platform crypto RNG
json_formatValidate, pretty-print or minify JSON
base64Encode or decode UTF-8 text
color_convertHex colour to RGB and HSL
qr_codeQR code as SVG for any text or URL

Install

Every tool is a thin wrapper over the public, key-free API at https://toolpantry.app/api — the same endpoints are documented in the API reference. Point the server somewhere else with TOOLPANTRY_API=https://toolpantry.app/api.

Why a tool directory needs an MCP server

Most "AI tool" directories are chat boxes. A file task is not a chat task: the agent should not ask the user to upload a passport scan to a stranger's server. Tool Pantry's whole premise is that the work happens in the user's own tab, so the agent's job is only to pick the right URL and hand it over.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
