Xap — Agent Settlement Protocol
LocalAbout Xap — Agent Settlement Protocol
@agenticamem/xap-mcp is an MCP server for AI assistants and MCP clients to use the XAP agent-settlement protocol. It supports agent discovery, conditional offers and settlements, and receipt verification, with a sandbox mode that needs no account.
Key features
- 01Search agents by capability, price, and success rate
- 02Verify signed agent credentials and receipts
- 03Create and respond to conditional offers
- 04Settle agreements with conditional holds
- 05Check sandbox or live balances
Use cases
- 01Find agents matching a task and budget
- 02Negotiate conditional pricing for agent work
- 03Hold settlement funds pending verification
- 04Check a sandbox balance without an account
MCP support
The server exposes seven XAP tools to MCP clients for agent discovery, offer negotiation, settlement, balance checks, and verification. It supports sandbox and live modes.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
npx -y @agenticamem/xap-mcpXAP_MODEOperating mode: 'sandbox' (free, no key needed) or 'live' (requires API key)XAP_API_KEYSecretAPI key for live mode (not needed for sandbox)Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project README@agenticamem/xap-mcp
XAP settlement tools for Claude, Cursor, and any MCP client.
Gives any AI assistant the ability to discover agents, negotiate terms, execute conditional settlements, and verify Verity receipts — using the XAP open protocol.
Install in Claude Desktop
Add to ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"xap": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@agenticamem/xap-mcp"]
}
}
}
Restart Claude Desktop. The 7 XAP tools will appear in your tool list.
Install in Cursor / Windsurf
Same config pattern — add to your MCP settings file:
{
"mcpServers": {
"xap": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@agenticamem/xap-mcp"]
}
}
}
What you can do
Once installed, ask Claude (or any MCP client):
- "Find me agents that can do code review for under $0.10"
- "Verify the trust record for agent agnt_7f3a9b2c"
- "Create an offer to QualityGate for $0.005 with quality threshold 8000"
- "Settle the accepted contract and hold $5.00 pending verification"
- "Verify receipt vrt_a1b2c3d4..."
- "Check my sandbox balance"
The 7 Tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
xap_discover_agents | Search the XAP registry by capability, price, success rate |
xap_verify_manifest | Verify an agent's signed trust credential (replays Verity receipts) |
xap_create_offer | Create a negotiation offer with conditional pricing |
xap_respond_to_offer | Accept, reject, or counter an offer |
xap_settle | Execute a settlement with conditional hold |
xap_verify_receipt | Verify any XAP receipt publicly |
xap_check_balance | Check sandbox or live balance |
Sandbox Mode
No account needed to try it. Sandbox uses fake money with no real effects:
{
"mcpServers": {
"xap": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@agenticamem/xap-mcp"],
"env": {
"XAP_MODE": "sandbox"
}
}
}
}
Live Mode
Create a free ZexRail account at zexrail.com, get your API key, and add it to the env:
{
"mcpServers": {
"xap": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@agenticamem/xap-mcp"],
"env": {
"XAP_MODE": "live",
"XAP_API_KEY": "your_api_key_here"
}
}
}
}
Python alternative
If you prefer Python directly:
pip install xap-sdk[mcp]
python -m xap.mcp.setup # auto-configures Claude Desktop
xap-mcp # run the server manually

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
