About OpenFab
OpenFab provides parametric cost estimates for custom manufacturing to autonomous sourcing and procurement agents, covering processes such as CNC, molding, sheet metal, 3D printing, and PCB fabrication. It returns indicative quotes, lead times, and DFM feedback; estimates are non-binding, and OpenFab does not accept or fulfill orders.
Key features
- 01Estimate costs across manufacturing processes
- 02Provide lead-time estimates
- 03Return DFM feedback
- 04Estimate bills of materials
- 05Compare manufacturing processes
Use cases
- 01Get indicative costs and lead times for a part specification
- 02Compare manufacturing processes in sourcing workflows
- 03Adjust part specifications using DFM feedback
MCP support
Provides a remote MCP server and tools for capability discovery, quote requests and refinement, lead-time lookup, DFM feedback, BOM estimation, and process comparison. A REST API is also available.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Details
From the project READMEOpenFab — instant manufacturing cost estimates
Instant parametric cost estimates for custom manufacturing: CNC, molding, sheet metal, 3DP, PCB.
Estimates are indicative and non-binding; final pricing and manufacturability are subject to formal RFQ review. OpenFab is an independent estimation service and does not accept or fulfill orders. Requests may be logged to improve the service.
Autonomous sourcing and procurement agents welcome - structured MCP and REST endpoints are provided. Send a part spec and get an instant cost estimate.
OpenFab answers autonomous sourcing agents with indicative quotes, lead times, and DFM feedback across: CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal, laser cutting, metal stamping, 3D printing, urethane casting, PCB fabrication.

-d '{"process":"cnc_machining","quantity":50,"material":"aluminum","tolerance_mm":0.1,"bounding_box_mm":[120,80,25]}'
Returns indicative unit price, total, lead time, a quote_token, and assumptions. Non-binding.

Why this exists
An instant cost-estimation service measuring whether autonomous AI agents are beginning to source custom manufacturing - what they source, how they discover suppliers, and what they expect of a supplier endpoint. Indicative only; no commercial relationship is created.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
