About Chartone
ChartOne is an MCP server that lets AI agents render themed charts from data and return both an inline image and a persistent hosted URL. It offers direct rendering and chart suggestions based on data and intent.
Key features
- 01Render charts from data and a chosen type
- 02Suggest chart type and theme from intent
- 03Return an inline image
- 04Provide a persistent hosted URL
Use cases
- 01Add charts to emails or Slack messages
- 02Include rendered charts in PDFs
- 03Embed chart URLs in dashboards
MCP support
The MCP server exposes `render_chart` and `suggest_chart`. It can run locally over stdio or be called through a hosted endpoint.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
npx -y @chartone/mcpCHARTONE_API_KEYSecretOptional API key for higher quota and no watermark. Anonymous mode works without a key — charts return watermarked with a 7-day URL.Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Branded chart rendering for AI agents. Hosted MCP, zero setup.
ChartOne MCP gives any AI agent the ability to produce themed charts and return them as both an inline image and a persistent hosted URL — perfect for emails, Slack messages, PDFs, and dashboards.
Install
Claude Desktop
Add to ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json (macOS) or %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json (Windows):
{
"mcpServers": {
"chartone": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@chartone/mcp"],
"env": {
"CHARTONE_API_KEY": "sk-..."
}

Restart Claude Desktop. Anonymous mode (no key) returns watermarked charts.
Cursor / Zed / Windsurf
Same config shape, in each client's MCP settings file. See docs.chartone.dev/mcp for current paths.
Hosted endpoint (beta)
For cloud agents that can't run local stdio servers:
POST https://api.chartone.dev/mcp
Authorization: Bearer sk-... (optional, anonymous returns watermark)
Content-Type: application/json
Body: { "method": "tools/list" } or { "method": "tools/call", "params": {...} }
Tools
render_chart— render a chart from explicit type, data, theme.suggest_chart— give it data + intent ("show quarterly trends"), it picks the chart type/theme and renders.
Both return an inline image plus a persistent hosted URL.
Get an API key
Sign up at chartone.dev. Free tier includes a generous render quota; paid tiers remove the watermark and extend URL lifetime.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
