About opentelemetry
OpenTelemetry is a reference skill for planning and troubleshooting telemetry instrumentation. It guides cloud and service teams through traces, metrics, logs, OTLP export, and Collector pipelines.
Key features
- 01OTLP export through a Collector
- 02Standard resource attributes
- 03Auto-instrumentation guidance
- 04Manual spans and log correlation
- 05References for sampling and troubleshooting
Use cases
- 01Planning a vendor-neutral telemetry endpoint
- 02Standardizing service and environment metadata
- 03Adding manual spans and correlating logs
- 04Debugging context propagation and cardinality

Quick Start (signal design)
- Export OTLP via an OpenTelemetry Collector (vendor-neutral endpoint).
- Standardize resource attributes:
service.name,service.version,deployment.environment. - Start with auto-instrumentation, then add manual spans and log correlation.
